We talk a lot about flexible learning spaces: adaptable rooms, furniture that moves, a mix of pieces for every kind of activity. Most of the time, that’s exactly right. But a science lab is a different brief. Here the priority shifts, away from variety and towards function and safety.

These rooms need space to work, surfaces that stand up to chemicals, benches that move easily so a class can change activity in minutes, and a fit-out that works around fixed services like sinks, gas and pipework. They’re often simple rooms. What makes them good is that everything in them earns its place.

What we delivered:

96 Eduflex Tall Benches 1350mm x 600mm, with a lab-grade compact laminate top on a black steel frame, mobile on lockable black Tente castors with a lower footrail, so staff can reconfigure the room between demonstration, group practical and exam layouts without help.
192 EN Stools (660mm) with a curved back profile that supports the lower back and flexes naturally as students move. Angled rear legs discourage tilting, and with a fully welded steel frame and a 15-year warranty, they’re made for constant, high-use classroom life.

Two details that matter in a working lab: every bench runs on Tente castors, so a full row can be repositioned quickly and locked in place, and the stools are fitted with felt caps on the legs. That combination protects the resilient floor, keeps movement quiet, and avoids the scuffing and drag marks that come with constant reconfiguration. The benches sit alongside the lab’s existing perimeter services (sinks, gas taps and storage), keeping the fixed wet areas at the edges and the flexible, movable work zone in the centre of the room.

At 96 benches and 192 stools, this was a full multi-laboratory fit-out, delivered to a school that knows exactly what it wants from its spaces.

Why Office Line

Swan Christian College isn’t a new client. They’ve worked with us consistently since 2018, trusting our team project after project. They know our products first-hand; they know the quality to expect, and they deal directly with our account managers, who understand the school, its spaces, and the way it teaches.

For a school, that relationship also makes procurement simpler. Office Line is an approved supplier on the WA Government’s CUAFWE2024 furniture panels (office and classroom), and has held a place on the WA furniture panel since 2007. We’re also a Tier 1 supplier under the NSW Whole of Government Contract 771. In practice, that means the compliance work, the tendering, probity and supplier checks a school would otherwise have to run, has already been done. A government panel is a pre-qualified route to purchase, so schools can specify our furniture with confidence and far less administrative overhead.

That’s the foundation for a project like this: Australian-sourced materials, a furniture range built specifically for education, panel arrangements that make buying straightforward, and a team that works with schools from concept through to installed space. Forty years in, that’s still the point: spaces designed around how students actually learn.
